Squeeze Theme 1.1.1 Update Available For Download

A little over a week after its initial release, Squeeze Theme 1.1.1 is now available for download. I’ve always been impressed that Nate and the rest of the UBD guys are never standing still and are constantly trying to enhance their products after release. Affiliate Theme has seen really dramatic improvements since its first release, and I think Squeeze Theme will be the same way. Below is the change log that Nate just posted on the Squeeze Theme forums.

  • New Landing Page Template
  • New Gallery Template
  • New Color Swatches for easier color section
  • Change the font of the text header / site description
  • Remove site description (to display full width 960px header images)
  • Fixed Twitter Widget

I just upgrade this blog over to the new version, and it was a quick and painless process. With the two new templates, Squeeze Theme is a lot more flexible, and can be used in a wider variety of situations. The new color swatches are pretty cool, as now you can see what the actual color is for each attribute without having to open up the color palette. All in all, a worthwhile release, and existing Squeeze Theme owners should upgrade right away.

My Squeeze Theme Review

Squeeze Theme was released a few days ago, and of course we see a bunch of reviews from big name bloggers who probably haven’t spent any time using the theme at all. This results in a myriad of reviews that are shallow and uninformative. As one of the first sites to start using Squeeze Theme itself, let me try and give a more detailed Squeeze Theme review.

Example Squeeze Page

I’m sure if you are reading this, you probably are very familiar with the concept of squeeze pages. A squeeze page is a simple page who’s whole goal is to collect a person’s email address. You will often see many internet marketing gurus these days make use of a squeeze page during the pre-launch of their product to get interested people onto their email lists. In addition to boosting sales on their current product, they can now market future products and services to you. Having a large, targeted email list is the holy grail for any internet marketer. It’s almost like having a license to print money because if you do it right because of the potential to earn more and more money with each email you send.

Squeeze Theme is a Wordpress theme developed by Unique Blog Designs that aims to make it easy to incorporate these squeeze pages into your blog. Keep in mind, that it is a full featured theme, and not a plugin meant to be integrated into an existing blog. If you do want to go that route, there are ways to do this which I will go into in a separate post.

Installing Squeeze Theme is as straightforward as installing any other theme. Just upload it to your wordpress theme directory and select the theme from your WP control panel. Once you have activated the theme, you’ll see a new Squeeze Theme menu item on the left sidebar. All the Squeeze Theme options can be configured which makes this theme ideal for non-designers who hate the idea of editing php/html by hand to customize their themes.

There are a couple of ways you can use Squeeze Theme. The first option is to create a simple site with a squeeze page as the main page. To do this, all you need to do is to create a new Page. Type in a page name and body as normal, and Squeeze Theme adds in additional options for settings like headline subtitle, an optional video embed code or graphic image, and submit button image and text. You can also choose between 4 different squeeze page templates. Two of the templates (1 & 4) are more suited for squeeze pages that include video, while the other two can be used without. Finally, copy and paste your email provider’s web form code into the Squeeze Form settings box and you’re done. Squeeze Theme integrates with most email marketing providers including the one I use, Aweber. Finally tell Wordpress to make your squeeze page the front page and you are ready to collect emails.

The second option is to create a blog like this one here. You have the choice of selecting a magazine style layout, and the regular two column layout I am using currently. Using this style, your squeeze page can be just a regular page on the blog, or you have the option of embedding the squeeze form into the header, footer or bottom of each individual post. Here is an example squeeze page that I’ve created for this site.

The Squeeze Theme settings are mostly limited to changing the colors of the various elements on the page. You do have control over the post headline and paragraph fonts, but that’s about it in terms of font settings. Although don’t get the same variety of options you would from a theme like Thesis or even UBD’s own Affiliate Theme, there’s enough customization available that you can still create a nice looking site very easily. Power users can always tweak the custom stylesheet to get more fine grained control over how they want their pages to look.

Playing With Squeeze Theme

As you can see tell, I’ve switched over this blog to use Squeeze Theme, so you can see it in action. It took me a little while to get the hang of things, but there are some excellent videos on the membership page that show you everything you need to know about setting up the theme. I’m using the default blog layout for this part of the site. It’s a standard 2 column layout and you can configure a lot of the things like the colors from within the Squeeze Theme control panel.

Of course the main reason you’re buying this theme is for the ability to create squeeze pages. You can see a simple one I’ve created here where I am giving away a free audio interview, in exchange for the visitor’s email address. Creating the page was a simple matter of creating a page, choosing one of the squeeze page templates, uploading my ebook cover and adding my Aweber form code. It really is quite simple to do.

Squeeze Theme Launch

Squeeze Theme is launching tomorrow at 12:01 AM PST. I’ve already pre-ordered my copy and I will have a full review up after I play with it a bit. In the meantime, enjoy the Squeeze Theme preview video.

Squeeze Pages 101 – Why You Should Build Your Email List

I was excited to hear the news last week that the guys at Unique Blog Designs are planning to release a new Wordpress Theme called Squeeze Theme. These are the same guys who created Affiliate Theme which is an awesome theme for affiliate marketers. I’ve been using Affiliate Theme for many of my PPC landing pages, and I’ve been really happy with the results. It is an extremely easy theme to setup and customize especially for someone who doesn’t have a lot of design experience like myself.

For those who aren’t familiar with the term, squeeze pages are a type of landing page that is specifically designed to collect a visitor’s email address. There are different styles of squeeze pages, but they usually include a compelling headline, some sort of incentive to get your email, and an opt-in form. Using Squeeze Theme will make creating these types of squeeze pages a breeze.

As you may know, email marketing is one of the best ways to improve your internet marketing business. If you build and cultivate your list properly, you will have targeted subscribers who will buy from you, time and time again with insane conversion rates. The bigger your list, the more money you can potentially make, which is why having a great squeeze page is so important.

Anyway, if you are interested at all in email marketing (and you should be!), the UBD guys have written a free ebook titled Squeeze Pages 101. I’ve just finished reading it myself, and it’s a really great email marketing primer for newbies. The book introduces you to squeeze pages, how to use them to collect emails, conversion tips, and a lot more. It’s a quick and easy read, an I recommend that everyone take a look. If you haven’t started collecting emails from your sites, then what are you waiting for?
